Language revitalization Through XR
In my role as an XR artist at StoryLab, I conceived and directed an immersive, multiplayer experience that preserves and celebrates the Cornish language through engaging digital storytelling. My contribution spanned the artistic and technical realms—from shaping the overall concept and narrative flow to customizing the visual aesthetics of scanned spaces. By weaving together collaborative gameplay, cultural elements, and cutting-edge Mixed Reality features, I aimed to elevate Cornish heritage beyond a passive encounter, transforming it into a living, interactive art form.

This prototype is a co-located multiplayer experience where two participants gather around a physical maquette of South Wheal Frances Cornish tin mine on the Great Flat Lode, visible through MR pass-through. Both players see each other in real time, with Cornish words hovering above them to spark language engagement. By tapping any point on the maquette, one player seamlessly teleports into a full-scale VR environment, rendered from Christopher Nightingale’s point cloud scan (processed via the StoryLab repository) and then artistically modified by me.
Meanwhile, the other participant remains in MR, observing a miniature avatar of their partner moving atop the physical model and offering guidance. This interplay of tangible and virtual realms underscores the project’s collaborative spirit, weaving art, heritage, and emerging technology into one cohesive immersive journey.
